dukátA golden St. Wenceslas ten-ducat coined in 1937 has become the most expensive Czech coin. At an auction held in Prague, it was sold for EUR 550,000 (approx. CZK 14.7 million), not including the 20-percent auction fee, thus outmatching the previous record holder, a golden Albrecht of Wallenstein ten-ducat coin dating back to 1630, which sold for EUR 465,000 (approx. CZK 12.5 million) last year. The auction was organized by Auction House Macho & Chlapovič (one of the exhibitors at the Collector fair). According to the auctioneers, the interest in historical golden or silver coins or historical medals has recently been growing.
